Dunas Beach is already open

 

Clients will be delighted to know that the Dunas Douradas beach concession is already open, offering sunbeds and shades on one of the Europe's most beautiful beaches.  We also have a range of soft drinks and snacks available.

Daily use of the sunbeds can be made directly with the lifeguards on duty, or you can reserve a weekly spot at a discounted price through the reception.  If you have a reservation this summer, you can book in advance by e-mailing recep@ddbc.pt

 

Portugal's National Day - 10th June

Once again, Dunas Douradas Beach Club will celebrate Portugal's National Day with a special buffet dinner, live music and a lot of enthusiasm!

The Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities as it is known is celebrated annually on June 10. Although officially observed only in Portugal, Portuguese citizens and emigrants throughout the world celebrate this holiday.

Since Camões date of birth is unknown, the date of his death is celebrated as Portugal's National Day.

Bring your family and friends to have an evening filled with the flavours of Portugal.

Beach Club gym trainer gets high place in South Africa "Ironman"

Congratulations go out to Dunas Douradas Gym personal trainer, Nuno Neves on his magnificent achievement in participating in the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon competition in Buffalo City, South Africa. The event is considered one of the world's hardest sporting events, with consecutive 1.9 km swimming, followed by 90 km cycling and terminating with a half-marathon run of 21 km. The Buffalo City event saw an amazing 2,551 participants. Nuno came 22nd overall amongst the professionals, earning points in the world championship, and 8th in his age group. Nuno is planning on competing closer to home in the Algarve in March and in Palma de Majorca in May.

Dunas Douradas Beach Club & the“38ª Volta ao Algarve”

DDBC was one of the official sponsors of the”38ª Volta ao Algarve” that took place between 15^th and 20^th February 2012.

The first stage began here in the beautiful Dunas Douradas Beach Club in a clear morning and a vibrant atmosphere with clients, friends and cycling enthusiasts gathering to see the famous cyclists.

Two of the most prestigious teams, Saxobank and Team Sky, were staying here at DDBC for the whole week.

Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) made it a perfect week for his British team by winning the final stage time trial. Wiggins’ teammate, Richie Porte, finished third on the stage, 13 seconds down, and secured the overall in the race. The Portugal race is a key stepping-stone used by a number of Grand Tour contenders in the build up to the Tour de France.

The Norwegian cyclist Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky Procycling) - pictured here with Dunas Douradas Beach Club CEO, Evy Ougendal) won the Stage 2 of the event.

The overallresult of the tour was as follows:

1) Richie Porte (Aus) - Team Sky 2) Tony Martin (Ger) - Omega Pharma 3) Bradley Wiggins (GBr) - Team Sky

The team event was won by Sky procycling (GBr) followed by Omega Pharma/ Quickstep (Bel) and Lotto- Belisol, also from Belgium.

The Dunas Douradas Beach (Garrão Poente) and the “7 Maravilhas – Praias de Portugal” competition

We are very proud to announce that the Dunas Douradas beach (Garrão Poente) has been nominated as a candidate in a prestigious “7 wonders – Beaches of Portugal” competition. It has been selected in the category of "beaches with sand dunes", amongst 53 other Portuguese beaches.

The promoters of the competition are: the Ministry of the Environment; thePortuguese Marines; the European Blue Flag Association; the League for the Protection of Nature; GEOTA; Quercus; e SOS – Save the Waves.

The process will be initiated by 70 specialists who will choose 70 finalists on 27th February based on 7 criteria, namely: the beauty of the beach area, quality of the water, cleanliness, degree of conservation of the local fauna and flora, services provided quality of public space, preservation of local identity and natural conditions for the practice of sports.

In the second phase, a panel of 21 personalities will choose the 21 finalists for public voting with the result being announced on national television (RTP1) on 8th September 2012.

Voting will be done by means of SMS, telephone, internet (www.7maravilhas.pt) or facebook between 7th May and 7th September 2012, so all lovers of the Dunas Douradas Beach, please cast your vote for the "Garrão Poente" beach, to make sure that we are in strong contention for the prize.

Almond blossom in the Algarve

Brands Hatch Race

On 5th November the second running of the Lotus 1000km race revived the tradition of long-distance racing at Brands Hatch in the United Kingdom.

The race features classes for Elise Trophy and Lotus Cup drivers and once more Dunas Douradas Beach Club was sponsoring a car in the 1000Km race. Our car was driven by Antonio Calado and Michael Duke and achieved an excellent 8th place (out of 40 participants) in the Lotus Elise category and 15th place in the overall rating.

Dunas Douradas Beach Club is proud to be associated with these prestigious races and look forward to continuing sports sponsoring in 2012.

Charity Bridge Tournament

Saturday 5th November 2011: More than €4,000 was raised for the ACCA Children's Charity in a week long Bridge extraveganza organised by Quinta Jacintina. The week closed with a "Swiss Teams" Tournament at the Dunas Douradas Beach Club, where 72 competitors took part in a six round competition.

Winners of the event were the team comprised of Michael and Cathy Davies, Soheila Munro and Dicky Vanlinden. Prizes were given by the Beach Club CEO, Evy Ougendal.

Thanks are given to the organisers, Susan and Sally, to Mo and Gwenda Daud for their ACCA support and to the tournament Director, Alex. Praise was given by all for the excellent conditions offered by the Beach Club and the efficient catering services of Ricardo and his Beach Club restaurant team.

DDBC Annual Golf Tournament 2011

On a beautiful autumn afternoon on the Algarve's most delightful golf course, Laranjal, 40 competitors enjoyed a wonderful time in the Dunas Douradas Beach Club Owner's Touranament. The format was once again a pairs betterball stableford competition.

The DDBC Owners' Trophy was won by Mike and Sheila Orchard with a fantastic 49 points. There were also inovative prizes for the straightest drive, longest drive, nearest the pin and a "beat the Pro" test on the 3rd hole.

Presentation of the prizes was held at the Casa do Lago restaurant in Quinta do Lago, given by the Owners' Association Chairman, Colin Dixon. The winners were handed the perpetual trophy by last year's winner, David Dixon.

The prizegiving was followed by an auction of offers given by local restaurants, golf courses, suppliers and the Apolonia Supermarket that raised €3,640 for the local childrens' orphanage "Casa da Primeira Infância".

Thanks are given to the event organizers and participants for making this day such a great success!
